Well, after informing my parents of my plans to rough it in a salmon cannery camp in Alaska next summer, they both called me "certifiably crazy".
Dad: Well, that all sounds very romantic, but you are out of your damn mind.
Me: But free room and board!
Mom: Sounds like prison. Picture boot camp only with blood and guts.
Ok, so I might need to revise my plans. After nearly 24 years, I have learned when to factor in my parents opinions...it's a delicate act and one that I have learned to perfect through trial and error. IE, when Dad says the skirt is too short I roll my eyes, if Mom says the skirt is too short then I actually need to go change.
My parents are seasoned Alaskan workers so this is one of those scenarios where I probably should really take their opinion into consideration. They seem to be pretty confident that I could get a better seasonal job up there, so I supposed it's something worth looking into. I mean I wasn't really all that attached to processing salmon anyway. I just thought I might meet some interesting characters.
